'Gospel' a Bittersweet triumph in Houston

Well, our little musical played as a benefit for "Bering and Friends", an excellent AIDS charity in Houston, TX.

Opening night was Friday, July 20. The same day our heroine passed on to her reward.

We join with her friends, family and fans all around the world in mourning the death of this special lady, and were happy to offer this celebration of her life and work as a lasting tribute.

The show broke all previous fundraising records for Bering, playing to sold out houses and standing ovations.

Welcome, Followers of the Gospel (According to Tammy Faye)!!!

This blog is dedicated to the new musical "The Gospel According to Tammy Faye"!!!

Written by JT Buck and Fernando Dovalina, TGATTF tells the life story of 'The First Lady of Televangelism". Featuring an eclectic pop score and a fantasy-like plot, the show has already been a popular crowd-pleaser in Houston and Cincinnati.

In 2005, acclaimed playwright Lanford Wilson predicted for the show: "It'll go over like Oreo's!". So far, so true!

On the other hand, Tony-Winning Producer Stuart Ostrow has asked repeatedly: "What's the story?"

As a theatre legend once said, "Musicals are not written, they're re-written". The writers are currently in the midst of that process, sharpening and refining our show with each passing incarnation.

Working outside the commercial mainstream, TGATTF has truly been a grassroots effort.

Following a great first reading at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, and a crowd-pleasing first production at the 2006 Cincinnati Fringe (www.cincyfringe.com), AND our upcoming Equity Staged Reading in Portland, OR (official info soon to follow), it's clear that our little show is starting to build momentum.
